Deck Materials
What do you think of when you think of deck materials?
Probably wood, right? Way back in time, decking was simple, as wood was the only choice for building a strong foundation of your deck system. When it comes to deck materials today, you have two main options: wood and composite. Within those two categories, the possibilities are endless.
How to choose the right deck materials
When it comes to choosing which deck materials fit your needs the best, you don’t have to do it alone.
The Deck Supply is the first and only provider of premium quality deck supplies to own and operate showrooms. Come visit one of our locations to experience our deck materials in-person and get recommendations from one of our specialists.
Wood Deck Materials
The most popular, and original option is wood decking. It creates the natural, outdoor feel, is customizable, and easy to install.
Depending on the type of wood you choose, our wood deck materials come in many different shades so you can match your space and preference.
Real wood deck materials require cleaning and maintenance about once a year. Depending on your environment, wood is also prone to splintering and warping over time, if not properly cared for. Your wood deck will also need to be cleaned and re-stained every few years to keep the color looking bright and fresh.
There are many different types of wood deck materials. Pressure treated wood is the least expensive option and usually chemically treated to protect against rot and termites. Tropical hardwoods like Red Balau and Ipe are dense, highly durable, and rich in color. Cedar and Redwoods are popular for their natural defenses against rot and insects, but they are softer and more easily damaged if you’re not careful.
Composite Deck Materials
Made with a combination of plastic and wood fibers, composite deck materials are engineered to look like real wood, but are much more durable.
They won’t bend or splinter, and they are often treated with UV protection, which eliminates the need for re-staining. In terms of maintenance, these deck materials need little more than a good scrubbing now and then.
Composite deck materials come in a variety of different types. Some have the same texture on both sides, for easy installation. Others have a different texture on each side for more aesthetic options. Some composite materials have extra engineered features like grooves or spokes that make the material more customizable to your space.
